FAQs about Voting in the Primary Election

Where can I vote in person?

You can find the locations and hours of operation for Hawaii’s Voter Service Centers here on the Office of Elections website.

Is it too late to register to vote in the Primary Election?

No. You can register and vote on the same day for this Primary Election when you visit any of the Voter Service Centers. After the Primary, you can quickly and easily register to vote online here with Hawaii Driver License or Hawaii State ID card and your Social Security Number. You can also register to vote in person at upcoming voter registration drives so stay tuned!

I signed a petition to establish the We the People of Hawaii. Who are the candidates for this new political party?

You may see candidates on your Primary Ballot associated with We the People of Hawai’i (WTPH). These candidates were not approved and are not endorsed by WTPH. The only candidates who have been nominated by the party are Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Nicole A. Shanahan. In future elections, WTPH looks forward to approving and endorsing state level candidates who are in alignment with the party’s principles and platform.

Does checking a certain box for “political preference” make me a member of that party or disqualify me from voting for the Presidential Candidate of my choice in the General Election?

No. In this Primary Election, you MUST select a political preference and choose among those party lines to vote for candidates running for state office (i.e. those located on the front page of your ballot). You can vote for ALL of the candidates for OHA and County regardless of your political preference.

If I want to vote for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the General Election, do I need to check “We the People” as my political preference in this Primary Election?

No. In Hawai’i, you can vote for any Presidential Candidate in the General Election, regardless of your “political preference” or membership within a political party. To be clear... in Hawai’i, you can be a Democrat or Republican and still vote for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for President or any other presidential candidate.
